Achromatic lens, also known as an achromat lens is specifically designed to reduce any effects caused by chromatic as well as sperical effects of sperical and chromatic aberration Achromatic lenses are filtered in order to put two light wavelengths (typically blue and red) to focus in one plane.
The most well-known kind of achromat can be described as the achromatic duot, which is made up of two separate lenses made of glaasses that have different levels of dispersion. In general, one component is negative (concave) component made of flint glasses like, which is characterized by its high dispersion. The one that is an positive (convex) component made from crown glass, such as BK7 with less dispersion. Lens elements can be positioned on top of each other usually cemented together and then shaped to ensure that the chromatic aberrations of one is balanced by the one.
